Sole-source up to $5M · 3% federal target

Get SDVOSB certified. Sole-source $5M. Federal target 3%.

SDVOSB (Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business) is the more powerful version of VOSB: 51%+ ownership and control by a veteran with a VA-rated service-connected disability. SDVOSB firms have sole-source contract authority up to $5M (no competition required) and the federal target is 3% of all federal contract dollars. The application uses the same VetCert system as VOSB, plus documentation of the disability rating.

How it works

How we handle SDVOSB Certification, end-to-end.

SDVOSB (Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business) is the more powerful version of VOSB: 51%+ ownership and control by a veteran with a VA-rated service-connected disability.

1

Veteran + disability verification

We verify DD-214 (discharge documentation) and VA disability rating letter. Any service-connected disability percentage qualifies (even 0%-rated).

2

Ownership and control

Service-disabled veteran owner(s) must hold 51%+ unconditional ownership AND control day-to-day operations. Spousal accommodation rules apply if veteran is permanently disabled and unable to manage daily.

3

Small business size confirmation

Must qualify as small under the SBA size standard for your primary NAICS code.

4

VetCert submission

Submit through SBA's VetCert system (consolidated SDVOSB certification under SBA in 2023). Review 30-60 days. We respond to examiner questions.

FAQ

About the SDVOSB Certification Service.

What disability rating qualifies?
Any service-connected disability rating, including 0% (a recognized disability without monetary compensation). The disability must be service-connected (VA-rated as connected to military service). Non-service-connected disabilities do not qualify for SDVOSB.
What is the difference between VOSB and SDVOSB?
VOSB: 51%+ veteran ownership and control. SDVOSB: same plus the veteran has a VA-rated service-connected disability. SDVOSB has higher sole-source thresholds ($5M vs. VOSB's $4M) and more set-asides.
What if the disabled veteran cannot manage the business daily?
Spousal accommodation rules apply if the veteran is permanently and totally disabled. The spouse can manage on behalf of the veteran without disqualifying the SDVOSB status. The veteran must still own 51%+ and retain ultimate control.
Where do I get my disability rating letter?
From the VA. You can request it through VA.gov, your VA medical provider, or by calling the VA at 1-800-827-1000. Letter typically arrives within 30 days of request.
Can I be SDVOSB and 8(a)?
Yes if you qualify for both. SDVOSB plus 8(a) gives access to the broadest set of federal set-asides. Many service-disabled veterans of color also qualify for 8(a) (which requires social and economic disadvantage).
What is the federal contracting target?
3% of all federal contract dollars go to SDVOSB firms. The largest source is the VA's procurement program, which has the highest veteran-set-aside spending of any federal agency.
