Home/Government Contracting/SAM.gov Registration
Government Contracting
Federal prerequisite · 2-4 week processing

Register on SAM.gov to win federal contracts. Done right, accepted the first time.

SAM.gov (System for Award Management) is the federal government's single registration system. Without an active SAM.gov registration, you cannot receive a federal contract, a federal grant, or a federal sub-award. Registration assigns a UEI (Unique Entity Identifier), confirms your business details against IRS records, and routes you to a CAGE code through DLA. We handle the registration end-to-end, plus the annual renewal that most contractors forget.

How it works

How we handle SAM.gov Registration, end-to-end.

SAM.gov (System for Award Management) is the federal government's single registration system.

1

Eligibility check

We confirm your entity has an EIN, the right business structure (LLC, Corp, sole prop, nonprofit), and the right NAICS codes for the work you want to bid on. NAICS selection determines which contracts you can win.

2

UEI assignment + entity validation

We submit your registration on SAM.gov, which assigns your Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) and validates your business details against IRS and state records. Mismatches are the #1 cause of registration delays.

3

NAICS + size standards

We pick NAICS codes that match your services, then check your small-business status against the SBA size standard for each code. Determines which set-aside contracts you can bid.

4

CAGE code coordination

DLA assigns your CAGE code as part of SAM.gov processing. We track the assignment and update your SAM.gov record once the code is issued.

FAQ

About the SAM.gov Registration Service.

Is SAM.gov free?
Yes, SAM.gov registration itself is free. Government does not charge for the registration. Our service fee covers preparation, submission, NAICS optimization, and the back-and-forth with the SAM.gov help desk if any IRS-match issues arise.
How long does SAM.gov registration take?
2 to 4 weeks if no issues. The most common delay is an IRS-match error (your business name or address does not exactly match IRS records). Pre-checking prevents this. The fastest registrations close in 7 days.
What is the UEI?
Unique Entity Identifier. Replaced the DUNS number in 2022. Assigned by SAM.gov when you register. Used to identify your entity in federal contracting, grant applications, and subaward reporting. 12-character alphanumeric.
Do I need a CAGE code?
Yes if you want to receive federal contracts. CAGE (Commercial and Government Entity) code is assigned by the Defense Logistics Agency as part of SAM.gov processing. You do not apply for it separately; it comes through SAM.gov.
How often do I need to renew?
Annually. SAM.gov registration expires every 365 days from your last update. Lapsed registrations cannot receive contracts. We track for renewal and refile 60 days before expiration.
Can I bid on contracts before SAM.gov is active?
You can submit proposals, but cannot receive a contract award until SAM.gov is active. Many solicitations have a deadline for SAM.gov activation (typically 14 days before award). Start the registration as early as possible.
