About payroll.

Who actually runs payroll?
Partner payroll providers (Gusto, Rippling, or Justworks depending on your team size and complexity). File.Business handles the surrounding compliance work.
What about workers comp?
Required in every state except Texas. We connect you to partner insurance brokers (typically through our partnership with Next Insurance or Coverwallet) for the right policy.
Can I hire across multiple states?
Yes. Multi-state hiring requires payroll registration in each state. We handle the registrations and add the employee to payroll in 5 business days per new state.
What about international contractors?
Contractors in other countries: yes, through partner payroll via Deel or similar. International employees (foreign-country payroll): not currently supported through this service.
What is a PEO?
Professional Employer Organization. A PEO co-employs your team for HR and benefits, letting small businesses access enterprise-grade benefits. Available on the Team 11-50 tier.
Can my employees access pay stubs?
Yes. Partner payroll providers (Gusto, Rippling, Justworks) all have employee self-service portals with pay stubs, W-2s, tax forms.
