State + EIN + 1023 + state charity

Launch your nonprofit. State + IRS + state charity, all done.

Launching a nonprofit requires four separate steps: state nonprofit corporation formation, EIN from IRS, IRS Form 1023 (or 1023-EZ for small) for 501(c)(3) recognition, and state charitable solicitation registration in the operating state. Each step has its own paperwork and timeline. We bundle everything for $1,999 plus IRS user fees, with the 1023 prepared by experienced nonprofit specialists.

How it works

How we handle Nonprofit Launch Bundle, end-to-end.

Launching a nonprofit requires four separate steps: state nonprofit corporation formation, EIN from IRS, IRS Form 1023 (or 1023-EZ for small) for 501(c)(3) recognition, and state charitable solicitation registration in the operating state.

1

State nonprofit corp

Articles of Incorporation with required 501(c)(3) charitable purposes language. Initial board of directors (minimum 3). Bylaws, conflict-of-interest policy.

2

EIN + BOI exemption check

EIN from IRS. Note: most nonprofits are exempt from BOI reporting once 501(c)(3) recognized, but transitional rules apply for new nonprofits.

3

Form 1023 or 1023-EZ

Form 1023-EZ for small nonprofits (under $50K gross receipts and under $250K assets). Form 1023 for larger or complex. We prep the application; you provide narrative content.

4

State charitable solicitation

Initial registration in operating state. Most states require registration before solicitation. We file initial registration; annual renewal handled separately.

FAQ

About the Nonprofit Launch Bundle.

How long does the whole process take?
State formation: 1-5 days. EIN: same day after state approval. Form 1023-EZ: 30-60 days IRS review. Form 1023 (full): 3-9 months IRS review. State charitable registration: 30-90 days. Total to fully launched: 1-12 months depending on form.
When can I start operations?
After state formation, you can operate as a nonprofit corporation. You can solicit donations after state charitable registration. You cannot represent yourself as 501(c)(3) until IRS recognition (donations during pendency may be retroactively tax-deductible once recognized; donors take some risk).
Form 1023 or 1023-EZ?
1023-EZ if expected gross receipts under $50K AND assets under $250K AND certain other restrictions met. Faster ($275 fee, 30-day review). 1023 (full) otherwise ($600 fee, 3-9 month review). We assess eligibility.
What is state charitable registration?
Required by 40+ states before you can solicit donations from residents of that state. Different from state incorporation (which is in one state). National fundraising requires registration in most states. We register in your operating state; multi-state is add-on.
Do I need a lawyer?
For the formation and 1023 application, our bundle is sufficient. For complex situations (multiple subsidiaries, unusual income sources, government-funded organizations), legal review is helpful. We can refer.
What if I want a 501(c)(4) or other category?
501(c)(4), (5), (6), (7) use Form 1024 (different form, different fee). See our Form 1024 service. This bundle is for 501(c)(3) charitable organizations only.
