Who writes this blog

Every guide here is written from the filing side of the desk rather than from a search brief. The work behind them is the day job: preparing and filing entity documents with state agencies across all 51 US jurisdictions, acting as registered agent, tracking annual report deadlines, and handling the reinstatements when a deadline is missed. When a guide says a state rejects a filing for a particular reason, it is usually because we have had one rejected for that reason.

Background

  • CTO and executive tax preparer, Troy Accounting. Tax preparation and the systems that run it.
  • File.Business. Runs the filing operation: formation, registered agent, annual reports, amendments, reinstatement and dissolution across 51 jurisdictions.
  • Founder, Global Opportunity Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
  • Full-stack and infrastructure engineer. Builds the filing platform, not just the copy that describes it.

What this is not

File.Business is a private filing service. It is not a law firm and it is not a government agency, and nothing on this blog is legal advice. Where a guide states a rule, it cites the statute or the agency's own published schedule so you can check it yourself. Where a state's own sources disagree with each other, the guide says so rather than picking the more convenient one.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, it should be fixed rather than defended. Every fee is checked against the issuing agency's published schedule, not against what most other pages say, and corrections are made against the source. Write in and it gets looked at.
