FAQ

About the Form 1099-NEC filler.

What does the $9 Blank tier include?
Yes. The blank Form 1099-NEC PDF is the official IRS form; you can download it for $9 (official IRS form, file yourself). The paid tiers add convenience: we fill it from your inputs, print and mail Copy B to your contractor, or e-file the IRS copy and email the recipient copy automatically.
Who has to file Form 1099-NEC?
Any business that paid $600 or more in nonemployee compensation to an unincorporated contractor (sole proprietor, single-member LLC, partnership) during the year. Corporations don't get 1099-NECs except attorneys and a few other exceptions. You issue one per recipient.
When are 1099-NECs due?
January 31 of the year after the income was paid. Both Copy A (to the IRS) and Copy B (to the recipient) are due the same day. This is earlier than most other 1099 variants. Late filing penalty starts at $60 per form and rises with delay.
Do I have to e-file my 1099s?
As of tax year 2023, the IRS requires e-file if you issue 10 or more information returns of all types combined (1099-NEC + 1099-MISC + W-2 + 1098, etc.). Below 10 you can paper-file, but e-file is faster and confirms receipt instantly.
What if my contractor's TIN is wrong or missing?
Backup withholding kicks in at 24% if the TIN is missing or fails the IRS Name/TIN match. Always collect a signed W-9 from each contractor before they invoice. We can run a TIN match in the $99 tier before submission to catch mismatches early.
Can I use this filler for 1099-MISC, DIV, INT, or K?
Yes, our $99 e-file tier supports all five common 1099 variants - pick the variant in Section 1 and we'll route it correctly. The free blank PDF download is 1099-NEC. For 1099-MISC, 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, and 1099-K, the filled and e-file tiers handle the variant-specific boxes automatically.
Is my data saved?
Your inputs autosave to your browser (localStorage) so you can come back later. No data goes to our servers until you choose a paid tier and pay. TINs are never transmitted in the free tier.
