Common questions.
Which deadlines are state vs federal?
Federal: estimated taxes (Q1-Q4), 1040/1120/1120-S/1065, K-1 prep, W-2/1099. State: annual report, franchise tax, state income tax, state payroll.
When are estimated taxes due?
Q1: April 15. Q2: June 15. Q3: September 15. Q4: January 15 (of next year).
My state has biennial: how is that handled?
Some states (NY, IA, NE) only require AR every other year. We track on per-entity basis with correct biennial cadence.
What if I formed mid-year?
Most states give 12 months from formation for the first AR. Some (TX) prorate. Federal estimated taxes pro-rate at quarterly schedule.
Do non-profits have different deadlines?
Yes. Federal 990 due 4.5 months after fiscal year end (typically May 15 for calendar-year). State varies. We track 990 cadence.
What if my CPA handles federal: do I still need BOS?
Yes. BOS handles state + BOI + entity-level deadlines that CPAs typically don't handle. We integrate with your CPA workflow.
How do you alert me?
Default: email + in-app at T-90, T-30, T-7. Optional add: SMS + Slack + Discord webhook + phone for day-of.
What happens if I miss a deadline?
Penalty + interest depending on filing. State AR late fee $50-$300+. IRS estimated tax penalty interest-based. BOI civil penalty $591/day. We escalate if T-7 hit without resolution.
Can I have CPA + bookkeeper access?
Yes. BOS lets you invite collaborators (CPA, bookkeeper, attorney) at no additional cost.
