Hague Apostille · all 50 states

State Apostille. For documents going abroad.

A state Apostille authenticates a state-issued document (birth certificate, marriage license, notarized affidavit, Secretary of State corporate filing) for use in a Hague Apostille Convention country. We retrieve, authenticate, and ship the apostilled document - typically within 5-7 business days. Required for international adoption, foreign marriage, work permits, dual citizenship, corporate registration abroad.

How it works

How we handle Conservation Easement, end-to-end.

A conservation easement is a permanent restriction on the use of land, typically donated to a qualified land trust to preserve the land's natural or open-space character.

1

Eligibility review

Land must have conservation value: scenic, ecological, historic, open-space, or recreational. We assess whether your land qualifies. Most rural and undeveloped properties do; urban properties rarely.

2

Land trust selection

Donation must be to a qualified land trust (501(c)(3)). We refer to local and national land trusts (Land Trust Alliance, The Nature Conservancy, regional trusts). They accept the easement and hold the restriction in perpetuity.

3

Engineering + appraisal

Engineering work documents the conservation value. Qualified appraisal determines diminished land value (the deduction amount). IRS scrutinizes appraisals; we use highly credentialed appraisers with conservation easement experience.

4

Legal documentation + closing

Easement document recorded with county recorder. Permanent restriction runs with the land. Donor receives appraisal-supported deduction. Coordination with attorney specializing in conservation easements.

FAQ

About the Conservation Easement Service.

What is an Apostille?
A standardized authentication certificate from the 1961 Hague Convention. Confirms the signature/seal on a public document is genuine, so the document is accepted in any other Hague country without further legalization. 125+ countries accept Apostilles.
Which countries are NOT Hague Apostille?
Major non-Hague: China (mainland; HK + Macao are Hague), Canada (joined 2024 but still finalizing), UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Iran, Vietnam, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iraq, Lebanon. For those, see our [international document authentication](international-document-authentication.html) (embassy legalization) service.
Do I need an Apostille on the original or a copy?
Vital records: certified copy from Vital Records office (NOT a photocopy). Notarized documents: the original signed + notarized document. Corporate: certified copy from Secretary of State. We retrieve the right version for you.
How long is an Apostille valid?
The Apostille itself does not expire. But the underlying document may have currency requirements set by the receiving country (e.g., Italy requires Apostilled marriage certificates issued within 6 months). Check requirements with the receiving authority.
Can my document be apostilled in any state?
No - must be the state where the document was issued or notarized. A California-notarized document is apostilled by California Secretary of State, not by any other state. We confirm jurisdiction before quoting.
What about federal documents (FBI background, USDA, IRS)?
Federal documents go through the US Department of State, not a state Secretary of State. See our [federal Apostille](apostille-federal.html) service - different process, different timeline.
